Arizona is also known as the Burro State, our wild burros are descendants of the burros the prospectors left behind, they are desert natives and adapted very well. Burros and Donkeys are the same thing, Burros are the Mexican name for Donkeys and that's what they are usually called in Arizona. These are actual photographs of the burros that live around us in western Arizona that have been turned into works of art. You may have heard of the legend of the “Jerusalem Donkey”. It goes something like this – after he brought Jesus into Jerusalem the donkey was troubled because he knew what Jesus was about to go through with his trial, suffering and death on the cross. Grief-stricken by the sight of Jesus on the cross, the donkey turned away but couldn't leave. It was then that the shadow of the cross fell upon the shoulders and back of the donkey, and there it stayed. All donkeys have borne the sign of the cross on their backs since that very day.
