Tank Theory was conceived in Boston in 2001 by Zach Johnsen and Andrew Silverman. Then strictly a t-shirt line, Tank Theory was created to combat all the poorly designed t-shirts that were currently saturating the market. “All we saw were logo tees back then or just really weak design. We wanted to show that there was another side to the t-shirt game - a more artful and thoughtful side. So we created a more raw and dirty style focusing more on the artwork and what the artwork was saying, as opposed to versions of company logos.” Now, after 7 years, Tank Theory is a New York/California/Portland based brand that has gained a reputation as one of the most unique and freshest out there. Having collaborated with some major players in the industry, the Tank Theory aesthetic has graced magazines, sneakers, skatedecks, and snowboards to name a few. Since coupling with Icon Apparel in 2004 and creating a sub-brand, TT&Co, Tank Theory’s cut & sew line, Tank Theory has created hats, shirts, jackets, dresses and all types of apparel & accessories and have taken that raw graphic aesthetic across a full fashion line.
