National Service Slavery in Eritrea must stop! Full stop!! The fact that the Eritrean National Service has become bondage of slavery that the regime subjects every citizen to comes as no news to Eritreans. Every Eritrean household has been blighted by the devastating impacts of the practice that only allows Eritreans to exit either through death or exile. It is well documented that the youth constitute the vast majority of those who leave the country. This is hardly surprising since the indefinite national service targets mainly the youth. The National Service has degenerated into forced labor and is threatening to destroy the very fabric of the Eritrean society. The Lampedusa tragedy, the Sinai atrocities, the crisis in Telaviv and Libya as well as the extreme hardships in the refugee camps across the Horn of Africa are all results of the indefinite and compulsory nature of the national service.
