À propos

I was taking this acting class. The professor asked us all to do a soliloquy from literature. I chose Socrates Apologia. Socrates was a royal pain to Athenian leaders. Always asking questions, always making people question their decisions. They sentenced him to death, but they really just wanted him to go away. He gave a speech (The "Apologia" where he made fun of them, and forced them to confront their hypocrisy. Then he drank the hemlock. I gave the soliloquy. Nailed it. The professor said, "Uh, Reed. That was great. But can you make it FUNNY?" Funny? The Apologia is anything BUT funny. But I took it home, reworked it, and using the same text, but with a totally different delivery, I NAILED it. The entire class was laughing, holding their sides, and they said, "Oh, that was so wrong, Reed. Loved it." There is humor in everything, if you reedbetweenthelines.
