After becoming widowed in 2007, McKenzi focused on raising her two boys while dealing with Epilepsy. When she took up photography as a hobby, it was during the darkest storm of her life. She often found herself looking up and capturing images of the clouds that gave her comfort and guided her through her journey. Guiding Light Photography was established after surviving abuse and she has since written and self-published "Be Light Be Love" (a self care guide with cloud images) and "Gray Skies" (a prequel to BLBL & her story in poems-available on Photobooks.pro and Apple Books). McKenzi has continued to grow in her journey and with her brand by adding GLP Designs and The Guiding Light Place, all to keep the memory of her late husband alive and share what saved her life. McKenzi is not only an Epilepsy warrior, but also a domestic abuse survivor. She realized something was missing on her journey and it was “self love”. She had experienced the best and worst kind of love and now it was time to embrace and love who she was really meant to be and going for it. Letting go of all the bad and making room for the great. McKenzi’s spirit and determination to help others is who she is. Her art is beautiful and her story is inspiring. Everything she does is with love and gives all the glory to God for every ounce of courage she’s had along the way. At The Guiding Light Place Shop, the creator's hope is to help you embrace your inner light, and encourage you to be the original you. Sometimes wearing something fun can do just the trick!
