What is Hotdish? They’re a rock band that, like the delicious dish that is their namesake, hails from the Midwest. Well…what’s it sound like? Just take a listen! Some would call it psychedelic funk-rock. Others might say Contemporary Hungarian Folk Rock. Those people would be wrong. Focused songwriting and solid musicianship is the bedrock of their sound, along with exploratory live improvisation. Berklee College of Music graduate Scott Bauer (guitar, vocals) created Hotdish after returning to Minneapolis to re-connect with the amazing and underrated Twin Cities music scene. The homecoming led to the discovery of drummer Ryan Cihlar (Willie Waldman Project), and Mcnally College of Music grad Eric Struve (Bass, Vocals). The raw power and energy of Cihlar’s drum-work and the cerebral yet funky bass lines created by Struve were a perfect counterpoint to Bauer’s melodic guitar. The band was born. The band is currently recording and producing their first album with engineer Matt Koene (Jay’s Boatcar), due out Summer 2009. They will be playing the highly anticipated Bella Madre Festival in May 2009.
