Dwight Frederick Allen (May 2, 1928 - June 2, 2002) was a graphic artist by profession, whose career spanned 45 years. His work included commercial/business design, impressionist-style painting, and just plain fun works for family and friends - and he did it all without computers! Instead of carrying a camera during his travels, he always brought along his pens and sketch pad. He had a natural and developed skill to soak in his scenes, and translate them onto paper while retaining the feeling of the moment much more so than with a photograph. He lived his art. Dwight particularly enjoyed the practice of painting scenery live in the outdoors. This technique is known as plein air. In this approach, the artist is one with his subject. Completely different than studio work, plein air artists have an eye for compelling landscapes, anticipate changes in the environment, and act quickly to develop a scene that tells a story. His passion for art showed in its character, and lives on with numerous works that he left behind. For more than a decade over two hundred of his works (some unfinished) went unnoticed in his studio. Now, his time to live on through his works has come. We want his artwork to see the light of day, and bring the same joy and excitement to your life as they have to ours. Just as he lived his art, you now have the opportunity to live his art! Dwight's talented work is brought to you by one of his grandsons, Jeff Mallory. They shared a special bond that took them on sailboat adventures, and on drives in his classic 1952 MG TD and 1967 Alpha Romeo convertible. Jeff carries on Dwight's passion for art by offering prints of Dwight's original works.
