Better Farm was created in 1970 as a space in which our founder, Stephen Caldwell, could get the medical and spiritual care he needed in exchange for providing a safe and communal space to live. When Steve passed away in March of 2009, he left behind a contingency of Better believers determined to propel his legacy into the future. Any profits made from Better Farm merchandise will be applied to all our endeavors: the ongoing project to convert a stubbornly unsustainable house to renewable energy; creating a safe space for those in need; and offering the curious an opportunity to expand, grow and flourish with educational programs and artist retreats. We will be thoroughly documenting our progress, and encourage you to check back regularly to see how you can get involved with Better Farm through our renovations, educational programs, documentary, and other projects.
